Kuala Lumpur, 24 December 2009 –As the leader in Islamic finance and the first foreign Islamic bank in the country, Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Berhad (KFH-Malaysia) is committed to creating on-going awareness on Shariah-based banking practices.
KFH-Malaysia recently hosted 23 Iranian bankers who participated in the Foreign Exchange Administration Rules and Exchange Swaps programme. During the study visit, the team from KFH-Malaysia Treasury shared the uniqueness of Shariah-based Treasury products offered before conducting a tour of the Treasury Dealing Room for the Iranians.
The programme was organised by the Institute of Bankers Malaysia (IBBM) with the assistance of Asia e-University (AEU) and designed for trainee Foreign Exchange inter-bank, corporate dealers, position keepers, new dealers and dealing room support staff, among others.
KFH-Malaysia also hosted a group of participants from the Financial Sector Talent Enrichment Programme or FSTEP. KFH-Malaysia has been chosen as one of the financial institutions for FSTEP’s familiarisation visit where the participants benefited from the presentations on key Islamic banking and finance areas such as Islamic project financing, retail and consumer banking as well as treasury and investment tools. FSTEP participants were also provided with exclusive interactive discussion session with senior representatives from KFH-Malaysia including the representative from Shariah division.
FSTEP is the brainchild of the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz. The programme is managed by IBBM and driven by the financial services industry with the objective to train and prepare highly calibre graduates for employment in the financial institutions.
These educational visits to KFH-Malaysia are in line with the company’s commitment to actively promote Islamic Banking. Apart from supporting Bank Negara Malaysia’s awareness projects, KFH-Malaysia has also initiated a series of programmes to stimulate interest, educate the public and create awareness for Islamic banking and finance.
