Kuala Lumpur, 28 July 2011 – Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Berhad (KFH Malaysia), the first foreign Islamic bank in the country, is the main financier in the development project of Islamic religious schools in the State of Johor. The Islamic financing, through a Murabahah Tawarruq facility of up to RM160 million, has been provided to MysysNet Development Sdn Bhd, the company appointed by the Johor State Government to undertake the project. KFH Malaysia financing will be utilised towards the construction of 97 Islamic religious schools from Phase One to Phase Four.
The project has been identified by the State of Johor as its long-term commitment to ensure sufficient supply of schools to cater for the growing demand of students for Islamic religious schools within Johor. The schools will be managed by Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Johor.
During the Signing of Facility and Development Project Launch event held in Johor Bahru today, KFH Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer, Jamelah Jamaluddin, said, “We are pleased that the management of MysysNet Development and the State Government of Johor had chosen KFH Malaysia to provide the financing of this project. This arrangement reflects our commitment in increasing the investment in Johor and to further explore opportunities for strategic partnerships with the Government and people of Johor towards mutual progress.”
The facility was signed by Puan Jamelah on behalf of KFH Malaysia and by Md Sees Md Ali on behalf of MysysNet Development Sdn Bhd, witnessed by Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Haji Abdul Ghani Bin Othman, Menteri Besar of Johor.
At the same event, Puan Jamelah announced KFH Malaysia’s commitment to supply relevant facilities and equipment for the resource centres of the Islamic religious schools, as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives. “As an Islamic financial institution, we are emulating the footsteps of our parent company in Kuwait to be at the forefront in spreading the virtues and knowledge of Islam in the areas where we operate. We hope that the schools and students will benefit fully from the resource centres.”
KFH Malaysia offers its innovative Islamic banking and finance products and services to the people of Johor through its two branches in Taman Molek, Johor Bahru and in Batu Pahat, which recently commenced its operations on 7 July 2011. To date, KFH Malaysia also operates from its branches in Jalan Pinang and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Klang, Pualau Pinang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. The Bank offers Bureau de Change services at KLIA, LCCT and KL Sentral.
