Kuala Lumpur, 21 January 2011 – Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Berhad (KFHMB), the first foreign Islamic bank in the country, launched its newest branch in Kelantan. Located at Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra, Seksyen 21, Bandar Kota Bharu, the branch marks the first in the East Coast and eight in KFHMB’s branch network nationwide.
In commemorating the soft opening of the new branch, Puan Jamelah Jamaluddin, Chief Executive Officer, KFHMB said, “This year, we are gearing our efforts to strengthen the overall Kuwait Finance House brand presence nationwide. Larger resources are being mobilised to enhance the visibility of our retail and consumer banking in the Peninsular and East Malaysia.”
The new branch offers KFHMB’s full range of Shariah-based products and services to the business sector as well as retail customers. These include KFH Gold Account-i, KFH Automobile Ijarah-i, KFH Personal Financing-i Hajj and Umrah and KFH Home Financing-i, among others.
Explaining the selection of venue, Puan Jamelah said, “We have chosen the State of Kelantan and the city of Kota Bharu as our foray into the East Coast to meet the needs of our growing customer base in the region, which is a high growth area for Islamic banking. We hope our presence in the state will support its economic development in the long run, especially in the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) clusters which include tourism, oil and gas, manufacturing, agriculture and education. This move is timely, especially with ECER targeting investors from the Middle East, and embarking on a trade mission to enhance bilateral relations with the region last year.”
She also thanked the authorities of the State of Kelantan, as well as Bank Negara Malaysia, for their continued support towards Kuwait Finance House, and for the assistance in realising the new branch.
In addition to KFHMB’s existing branches in Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Klang, Johor Bahru, Pulau Pinang and Kuching, the Bank also operates a Bureau de Change at KLIA, LCCT and KL Sentral.
