Kuala Lumpur, 20 March 2013 – Chairman, Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Berhad (KFH Malaysia), Dr Nabeel Al-Mannae, has announced specific changes in the structure of KFH Malaysia that reflects the distinction between core banking and investment banking activities. Accordingly, Dato’ Jamelah Jamaluddin who has helmed the bank since 2010 as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will now assume the role of Managing Director of Kuwait Finance House (Labuan) Berhad and Dato' Sri Abdul Hamidy bin Abdul Hafiz as the CEO of KFH Malaysia effective 21 March 2013. The effort was part of the Group’s overall strategy to restructure its business, further strengthen KFH presence in the Asia Pacific region by focusing on investment banking and fee based income. KFH expects to create more synergy at the Group level as KFH Malaysia serves as an important hub for the region. The appointments are in line with the approach being taken by the KFH Group, including at the holding company level in Kuwait Finance House, Kuwait, to restructure and leverage on the distinction between fund based and fee based activities and its implications for sound organisational management and leadership whilst maintaining its core banking activities.
An experienced banker with 30 years in the financial industry, Dato' Sri Abdul Hamidy will play a pivotal role as the new CEO of the first foreign Islamic Bank in Malaysia. He will maintain a strong focus on the priority areas that Kuwait Finance House K.S.C. has determined and grow KFH Malaysia’s banking business and fund-based activities.
Dato' Sri was appointed as a Director of the KFH Malaysia’s Board on 11 June 2012. He was previously the Chief Executive Officer of Affin Bank Berhad and Managing Director of Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Bhd. He has also served on the Boards of several public listed companies in financial services and advisory panels. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from Ohio University, United States of America.
In her new position, Dato’ Jamelah will drive the region’s capital market, investment banking and fee-based activities for the Group. As CEO of KFH Malaysia she had successfully led the team through a challenging period and overseen the beginning of the Bank's long-term transformation programme.
