Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 13 September 2007 ¿ Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Berhad (KFHMB) is serious about corporate social responsibilities vis-¿-vis sharing knowledge and experience in Islamic banking and finance. In line with the company's objective to support and develop local talents, members of the Shariah Committee of KFHMB paid a visit to the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) on 27 August 2007. The visit was in conjunction with the ninth KFHMB Shariah Committee Meeting this year, which was held recently in Kuala Lumpur on 28th of August 2007.
The members which make up the Shariah Committee include respected Shariah scholars from Kuwait. They are responsible in providing Shariah advice to the Bank so as to ensure that all transactions, operations and activities of the Bank are in compliance with rules and principles based on the Shariah tenets and views issued by the Shariah Committee. The members are: Sheikh Prof. Dr Mohammed Abdul Razaq Al-Tabtabae, the Chairman, Sheikh Dr Anwar Shuaib Abdulsalam and Sheikh Adnan Ali Al-Mulla.
To take advantage of the experts' visit, a forum was also hosted by the Faculty of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, IIUM. Committee members who participated as panelists in the forum were Sheikh Prof. Dr Mohammed Abdul Razaq Al-Tabtabae and Sheikh Dr Anwar Shuaib Abdulsalam. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Tabtabae is also the Dean, Faculty of Shariah and Islamic Studies, Kuwait University.
The forum, titled "Contemporary Issues in Islamic Banking" held at IIUM, which coincided with the visit, saw participation by the academic staff and students of IIUM. The forum was moderated by Dr. Mohamad Akram Laldin, Head of Department of Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh, Faculty of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, IIUM.
Issues discussed in the forum included the Shariah principles in dealing with contemporary issues related to financial transaction, the methodology in deriving to the Shariah rulings and views, harmonisation of Shariah views and the importance of Shariah internal control in Islamic financial institution. The learned panelists also highlighted some of the latest developments in Islamic finance in the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC).
