Penang, 24 January 2008 - Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Berhad (KFHMB) made further impact when it organized its Islamic Banking and Finance Briefing today for the business community in the State of Penang. The event was well received with about 250 participants, comprising Chief Executives, key officers and medium to upper level management from the state government, as well as the public and private sectors and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating in Penang in attendance.
This is the second of KFHMB's campaign to create awareness and promote Islamic banking among business community and the general public in the country. The half-day event highlighted products and services and also the innovations of KFH-Malaysia. Last November the State Government of Johor gave KFHMB the privilege to make Johor the platform and the launching ground of this campaign.
"We understand how busy you are and that is why we have taken the initiative to organise this event and brought the key officers of KFHMB to meet you in Penang," Dato' K. Salman Younis, Managing Director of KFHMB said in his keynote address. "The main reason why we are here today is to fulfil one of the objectives of KFHMB - to create awareness and promote Islamic banking and to create awareness about KFHMB. We also want to highlight our products and services and also the innovations of the Bank."
The event was opened by Yang Berhormat Dato' Seri Haji Yahaya Abdul Hamid, Penang Legislative Assembly Speaker.
Participants were briefed on various topics in Islamic banking and finance by senior officers from four KFHMB business units: Commercial Banking, Corporate Banking, Shariah and Treasury.
"This Roadshow may be the first for KFHMB in Penang. However, we would like to highlight to you that KFH - Malaysia has already put its footprints in this state with the establishment of two significant deals," added Dato' Salman.
KFH-Malaysia had inked an agreement on 22 January, to provide Islamic financing facilities to Ideal Capital for the development of a 13.5 acre commercial property named The One, Penang Cyber City. Last November, KFHMB became a partner to another Penang property developer, Corner Side Realty, to underwrite part of The Sanctuary, an exclusive property enclave within the Batu Uban Growth Triangle.
"With these significant moves, the State Government wishes to express its support and confidence in KFH-Malaysia and that it can and will become a major partner in new ventures within the State of Penang, such as in properties, infrastructure, manufacturing or industries, to name a few," says Dato' Seri Haji Yahaya.
Participants had the opportunity to intermingle with representatives from KFHMB and with other guests during the closing Hi Tea and Networking Session.
KFHMB plans to open a branch in Penang, its second branch outside of the Klang Valley after Johor, this year.
