Kuala Lumpur 17 January 2008 - Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Berhad (KFHMB) showcased its successes in the lucrative business environment of Malaysia during the inaugural Malaysia Services Exhibition (MSE) 2008. The event was held at the Sharjah Expo Centre in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), from January 13 to 15, 2008. KFHMB had been invited by the organizer of the event - the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) - in the latter's bid to attract investors from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The delegates from Malaysia were headed by The Honourable Dato' Seri Rafidah Aziz, the Minister of International Trade & Industry. Apart from Sharjah, the three-day mission took the delegates to Kuwait and Oman.
H.H. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohamad Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, the Crown Prince of Sharjah, launched the exhibition - an avenue for the services industry in Malaysia to demonstrate what they can offer to businessmen in the UAE and surrounding regions - on 13 January.
MSE 2008 brought together 170 of the top services providers in Malaysia; these comprised 11 specific industry clusters - construction, engineering, healthcare and hospital-related services, ICT, oil and gas, education and specialised training, energy and power generation, finance, logistics and transportation, professional services and franchising.
The financial cluster was led by Bank Negara Malaysia, in which KFHMB and other key financial industry players participated under the flagship of Islamic Finance and the Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre (MIFC). As one of the leading Islamic financial institutions in Malaysia, KFHMB took the opportunity to cross-sell all relevant Islamic products and services at MSE 2008.
Forums, round-table discussions and one-to-one business meetings were held concurrently with the exhibition, to encourage alliances and partnerships. Mr. Shaheen Alghanem, Chairman of Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Berhad addressed 300 businessmen in Kuwait, on setting up its operations in Malaysia during the "Seminar on Malaysia ¿ Kuwait Business Opportunities" in Kuwait City organised by MITI and MATRADE. Mr Shaheen elaborated on the reasons why Kuwait Finance House had selected Malaysia as its regional base.
Also present at the seminar were H.E Hilal Mishari Al-Mutairi, First Vice Chairman, Kuwait Chamber of Commerce & Industry & Chairman of the Seminar, H. E. Dato' Ashaari Sani, Ambassador of Malaysia to Kuwait and Mr Mohammed Sulaiman Al-Omar, Group General Manager & Chief Executive Officer, Kuwait Finance House Group.
Kuwait Finance House also hosted a dinner for the trade and investment mission on 15 January in Kuwait City, with Dato' Seri Rafidah and Dato' Ashaari Sani, the Ambassasdor of Malaysia to Kuwait as guests of honour.
